Poster contest entries needed

Special to The State Journal Published:

The Frankfort-Lexington Chapter, The Links, Incorporated is sponsoring an art contest. This years theme is, Project Walking Fete: Make Health a Habit!

The contest is for school-age youth in grades 1 through 12. Youth will be asked to design art posters using any art medium such as watercolors, pencils, acrylics, collages, fabric, mosaics, etc. The posters should be created on white drawing paper that is 9 x 12 or 12 x 18.

This project can be undertaken by a group, such as Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, church youth groups or Sunday school classes, community youth center groups, regular school classes, school art classes or any other youth organizations in the community. Youth can also submit posters individually.

The posters should convey the students view of how walking contributes to better health and wellness, or how physical activity can contribute to better health and wellness. The poster should convey what a walking fete (a celebration of walking) means to them.

Entries will be judged in four age categories: grades 1-3, grades 4-6, grades 7-9 and grades 10-12. There will be a local winner selected from each age category. Local winners will receive recognition and awards. The local winners will be forwarded to the Area competition, which is a regional contest. The winners from the Area competition will be forwarded to the National competition.

The Area competition will award regional scholarships of $500 and the National competition will award national scholarships of $1000. Posters will be judged on four elements, which are creativity, originality, content and artistic ability.

There is no entry fee to participate in the contest. All entries must be submitted by no later than March 31.
