Laura Hayden will be leading a discussion on Rose Maintenance at the 7 p.m. Monday meeting of the Capital City Rose Club at Wilson Nurseries on the East-West Connector. The public is invited.

Chorale plans

spaghetti dinner

The Capital City Chorale will sponsor a spaghetti dinner 5-8 p.m. Friday, April 21, at First Presbyterian Church, 416 W. Main St. The cost is $5 for dinner, drink and dessert. Children under 6 eat free.

KHQS planning

June quilt show

Those wishing to exhibit in the juried 2006 Kentucky Heritage Quilt Society Annual Quilt Show are invited to obtain a contract or additional information from Marilou Jacobs, 4010 Poplar Level Rd., Apt. 5, Louisville, KY 40213, (502) 458-0993.

The show is set for June 15-17 at Baer Fabrics, 515 E. Market St., Louisville. The theme is Time Out and the show is open to Kentucky residents or KHQS members. Show chairs are Jacobs and Sandy McCoy. Theyve arranged for the worlds smallest quilt to be displayed.

Cinderella

VERSAILLES The Woodford County Theatrical Associations productioin of the musical Cinderella, by Rodgers and Hammerstein, continues April 21-23, 28-30, at the Falling Springs Arts and Recreation Center, 275 Beasley Rd. Friday and Saturday shows are at 8 p.m. with Sunday matinees at 2. There is no performance today, Easter Sunday.

Oratorical contest

The Frankfort Optimist Club of the Kentucky-West Virginia District of Optimist International is seeking contestants for the annual Oratorical Contest. The contest is open to students under the age of 16 as of Dec. 31, 2005. Separate contests are held for boys and girls.

The club winners, a boy and a girl, will receive medallions and advance to the district contest to compete for two $1,500 scholarships, one for a boy and one for a girl.

This years topic is My Future is Bright Because. Speeches must be between four and five minutes long.

The contest will be held on Sunday, May 7, at 1:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall on Second Street. Winners will then compete in the District Contest, which will be held on the afternoon of Saturday, May 20, at the Holiday Inn Lakeview in Clarksville, IN.

BCA offering

$500 scholarship

The Bluegrass Community Action Partnership is offering a $500 scholarship to a person in each of the nine counties in which it operates. The scholarship may be used to help cover expenses associated with going to college or a technical school of the recipients choice.

Applications for the scholarship may be obtained from the Guidance Counselor at each area high school or by calling Sharon West, Blue Grass Community Actions Community Developer, at 695-5615. The deadline for applying is May 1.

The Bridgeport Ruritan Club is offering two $500 scholarships to graduating seniors from the three high schools in Franklin County. Applications are available from counselors at each school
