Family and Consumer Sciences: Free summer camps available for military families

By Tamara Thomas Published:

Do you know a military family that would like to have lots of fun at a free camp this summer? Kentucky Operation: Military Kids is once again offering free camps for military families.

This year we have two camps with new adventures and lots of new memories to make. Our family camps are open to families from any state and any branch of the military. This includes active duty, reserve and National Guard. First priority will be given to families who have a member who has been deployed.

Our first camp will take place June 8-10. It will be held at Mammoth Cave National Park. Families will have a great weekend spending quality time together and meeting other military families. They will have a chance to go on a cave tour through Mammoth Cave. They will also go canoeing along the Green River. While on a kayaking trip families will experience great scenery, limestone bluffs and a small cave.

Our second camp will take place Aug. 3-5. It will be held at the Life Adventure Center.  Families will have a great weekend spending quality time together and meeting other military families. Activities include hayrides, fishing, ropes challenge, zip lines, horseback riding, hiking and much more.

At all of our camps, families will spend time getting to know each other during meals, group games and ice cream socials. Teens will get to participate in a Speak Out for Military Kids program.

These camps are completely free. Spots will fill fast so tell all the military families you know about this incredible opportunity as fast as you can. For more information and to sign up for the camps, go to:
