Bridgeport Christian builds a ramp for Madi Phillips

Teen was injured in 2011

Special to the State Journal Published:

Youth and adult members of Bridgeport Christian Church, 175 Evergreen Rd., constructed a ramp to aid Madi Phillips get to and from the swimming pool at the home of her grandparents, Tom and Maggie Quisenberry, Bridgeport members.

Madi was involved in an accident on Dec. 29, 2011, injuries from which have her now confined to a wheelchair. Maggie and Tom love to entertain the entire family at their home and Madi has always loved spending time at the pool at their home.

Church members raised money through fundraisers to purchase materials needed to construct a ramp so Madi would have access to the pool for swimming and therapy.

Madi, who will be 18 on Aug. 2, graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, Lexington, is going skydiving with a group from Cardinal Hill Hospital where she went for rehabilitation. She has already been snow skiing and kayaking with this group.

She plans to attend Eastern Kentucky University and major in speech therapy so she can help others the way she was helped by the therapists at Cardinal Hill.
