Vacation Bible School calendar

It’s summer and it’s Vacation Bible School time in our local churches. If you would like to have your VBS listed here, please see “How to submit” below for details.

Also, send us some pictures from your VBS, being sure to identify everyone, left to right, tell us what’s going on and, or course, the church and the VBS’ theme. We have some today from First Presbyterian Church.

>First Christian Church, 316 Ann St., July 9-13, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. for children entering grades one through eight. “Seeking God Through Music,” For more information call the church, 223-2346 or visit firstchristianchurch@fewpb.net. >Crestwood Baptist Church, 1006 East Main St., July 8-12, 6-8:30 p.m. Theme: “Backstage with the Bible.” For more information call the church, 695-2088.

>Graefenburg Baptist Church, U.S. 60 just across the Shelby County line will kick off its 2012 Vacation Bible School with Summerfest, a free family festival this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Summerfest will feature games for kids, free food, live music, a yard sale, inflatable bouncies, a cornhole tournament, a basket auction and a dunking booth. Families also will be able to pre-register their children for VBS, which runs Sunday, July 8-12, 5:45-8:45 p.m. nightly for children age 2 through sixth grade. >St. John Baptist Church, 1775 St. John Road, July 9-13, 6:30-8:30 p.m., ages 3-12. Theme: “Adventures on Promise Island.” Kickoff party Saturday, July 7, 5:45-7:45, Juniper Hill Pool. Public invited.

>New Harvest Assembly of God, 3864 U.S. Hwy 127 July 9-13, 6:30-8:30 p.m., ages 3-10. Theme: “Praise Where You Get Down and Lift God High.” For more information or to pre-register, visit frankfortnewharvestassemblyofgod.org.

>Bethel Baptist Church, 8200 Owenton Rd., one-day VBS on Saturday, July 14-10, a.m.-3 p.m. Theme: “Bethel’s Water Wonderland.” Activities include: lesson, crafts, music, water games, dunking booth, cookout, and popsicles. Bring a towel and suitable clothing for outdoor/wet activities. Transportation available by calling 227-7278 or 352-4259 for information or transportation.

Immanuel music camp set

Registration is now underway for the 17th annual Musical Day Camp Production at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1075 Collins Lane. The camp is for children who have competed grades 1-6.

The camp is scheduled for July 16-20, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. daily with performances of the production, “Never Give Up,” set for Saturday and Sunday, July 21 and 22. Camp participants are required to take part in the two productions.

The cost is $25/child that includes a T-shirt, fees for two outings, craft supplies and snacks. For registration forms and other information, call the church (223-7601) or email Dr. Naomi Walker, nwalker@fewpb.net, music/worship pastor. Pre-registration is encouraged.

Church celebrating Houston’s anniversary

First Baptist Church, 100 Clinton Street will host the Third Year Pastoral Anniversary for its senior pastor, Robert Earl Houston, Sr. The celebration will take place the weekend of July 14-15, 2012.

On Saturday evening, July 14 beginning at 6:30 p.m., there will be a concert by gospel recording artists, The Golden Crowns. The group has been together for more than 50 years. Doors will open at 6. The concert is free and open to everyone with doors opening at 6. A love offering will be received during the concert for those who wish to contribute.

On Sunday, July 15, Pastor Paris L. Smith Sr., Evergreen Baptist Church, Lawrenceburg, will be the guest speaker at the 8 a.m. worship service and Pastor Barton Elliott Harris of Westwood Baptist Church, University Center of Nashville, Tenn., will be the guest speaker at the 11 a.m. service.

If you would like to submit information about an upcoming special event at your church (other than regularly-scheduled worship services), perhaps with a picture of a group that’s to perform to accompany the information, or submit pictures and/or information about special events that have occurred – like these Vacation Bible Schools – then send information and/or pictures to Philip Case, pcase@state-journal.com, drop it/them by the paper, 1216 Wilkinson Blvd., or send them through the mail to that address here in Frankfort, KY 40601.

Please be sure to include all pertinent information (who, what, where and when) in announcements of upcoming events and identify people in photos. Pictures should be 180 dpi or larger. If you have questions, call or email Case.
