The Franklin County Homemakers Garden Club met in June to discuss the Franklin County Fair Flower Show and what the club would do to help make the show a success.
The Flower Show each year is held as part of the Franklin County Fair and all the garden clubs in Frankfort and Franklin County work very hard in making it a success. This year’s is Friday in the basement of the Extension Office, 101 Lakeview Ct.
Members of the Homemakers Garden Club will bring breakfast snacks for the workers and deserts for the judges’ lunch. Volunteers from the club will also assist with the entries and recording the information as the judges view the entries.
The flower show is just one part of the fair’s activities. All the garden club members in Frankfort and Franklin County would like to encourage everyone to enter one or more items in this year’s show.
Review the floral design and horticulture divisions and bring your flower arrangements and horticulture specimens in Friday between 8 and 11 a.m. for display. The rules start on page 90 of the fair catalog or can be found online at franklincountyfair.info.
This year’s floral design theme is reflective of the election. Bring address labels (1 X 3 inches) for each item to be entered. All flower show exhibitors must register at the lower level of the Franklin County Extension Office.
There are several sections included in the horticulture division. The public may view the entries Friday from 4-8:30. Once your design and/or horticulture item is entered, it may not be removed until Saturday at 11:05.
Also at the meeting, club members conducted their annual plant sale. Each member brought plants to be auctioned. The sale netted $100.
