Homecoming at St. John Baptist

St. John Baptist Church, 1775 St. John Rd., will host a homecoming celebration Sunday, Aug. 5. The speaker at the 11 a.m. service is David Smith. Lunch will follow the service.

Lemke speaking at Crestwood

Dr. Steve Lemke, Provost and Professor of Philosophy and Ethics at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, will be speaking at the 10:45 a.m. Sunday service at Crestwood Baptist Church, 1006 East Main St.

Lemke, who holds a PhD from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, is co-editor with David Allen of “Whosoever Will: A Biblical–Theological Critique of Five Point Calvinism.” He will offer reflections from the John 3:16 Conference and the Aug. 4 Conference – Calvinism. Atkinson performing at Farmdale Baptist

Gospel concerts each Sunday at Crestwood

Crestwood Baptist Church, 1006 E. Main St., is planning a series of Old Time Southern Gospel Concerts beginning at 6 p.m. each Sunday night in August. Fellowship and refreshments will follow each performance. For more information call 695-2088.

Chautauqua at First Methodist

First United Methodist Church’s 26th annual Chautauqua series begins Sunday and continues every Sunday in August. The programs begin at 7 p.m. The first program will be in the sanctuary. The remainder of the series will be held in Asbury Hall of the Wesley Center. The church is at 211 Washington St.

Organ recital is Aug. 12 at Millville Christian

MILLVILLE – Millville Christian Church will host the 10th annual Theatre Organ Concert beginning at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12. Organists Roland Herzel and Gary Johnson will once again play the church’s electronic “theatre organ,” featuring music written specifically for theatre organ concerts, based on a style used in the early 20th century to accompany silent films.

Theatre organs also feature a host of percussion instruments such as bass drum, snare, xylophone, maracas and so on, all fully playable from the organ console using special knobs and buttons for the hands, feet and even the organist’s knees.

An old-fashion ice cream social will follow the concert.

The church is located on McCracken Pike in Millville. Turn at Cracker Barrel off Versailles Road and proceed to the bottom of the hill. Turn left there and the church is a quarter mile on the left.

Consignors needed for sale at Providence

A Children’s Consignment Sale will be held at Providence Baptist Church, Georgetown Road, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25. This is a great opportunity for you to sell your gently used baby and children’s items such as beds, high chairs, activity centers, changing tables, toys, books, DVDs, bottles, and clothes.

Seventy-five percent of the profit will be returned to you and 25 percent will be donated to “Avenues for Women.” If you would like to consign, detailed information at or call Peggy Rayborn 320-9087. The deadline for consignors is Aug. 15.
