Free backpacks available

Camp Pleasant Baptist Church, 830 Shadrick Ferry Rd., will be giving away backpacks containing school supplies during the 11 a.m. worship service Sunday.

Homecoming at St. John

St. John Baptist Church, 1775 St. John Rd., will host a homecoming celebration Sunday. The speaker at the 11 a.m. service is David Smith. Lunch will follow the service.

Lemke speaking at Crestwood

Dr. Steve Lemke, Provost and Professor of Philosophy and Ethics at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, will be speaking at the 10:45 a.m. Sunday service at Crestwood Baptist Church, 1006 East Main St.

Lemke, who holds a PhD from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, is co-editor with David Allen of “Whosoever Will: A Biblical–Theological Critique of Five Point Calvinism.” He will offer reflections from the John 3:16 Conference and the Aug. 4 Conference – Calvinism. Atkinson performing at Farmdale

Ricky Atkinson, an award-winning Southern Gospel songwriter and vocal artist, will present a free concert at Farmdale Baptist Church, 5610 US 127 South, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. For more information visit farmdalebaptist.com.

Gospel music series begins

Crestwood Baptist Church, 1006 E. Main St., is planning a series of Old Time Southern Gospel Concerts beginning at 6 p.m. each Sunday in August. Fellowship and refreshments will follow each performance. For more information call 695-2088.

The first concert in these series is Sunday featuring the “New Vision Quartet.”

Chautauqua begins at FUMC

First United Methodist Church’s 26th annual Chautauqua series begins Sunday with a 7 p.m. concert by the Capital City Community Band in the church’s sanctuary. The church is at 201 Washington St.

Homecoming at North Benson

North Benson Baptist Church, Devils Hollow Road, will celebrate homecoming Sunday, beginning with the 11 a.m. worship service. Lunch will follow.
