Elks donating American flags to area classrooms

Published:

Frankfort Elks Lodge #530 recently presented classroom flags to the Frankfort Independent Schools and the Franklin County Public Schools in an effort to ensure that all classrooms in the county have an American flag that is appropriate for display.

The effort is part of the activities of the lodge’s Americanism Committee, which strives to educate citizens about the flag and to raise pride and respect towards patriotism.

In addition to the classroom flag project, the local lodge will also sponsor an essay contest after the start of the school year.

The contest will be open to students in grades five through eight, and teachers in the schools throughout the county will be notified of the contest in September.
