Maria Foster Bush was presented the Human Rights Award at Church Women United of Franklin County’s Human Rights Celebration, “Embracing our Oneness,” held Sept. 21 at St. Peter’s Anglican Church. Sairen Harris, now a student at the University of Louisville, shared some of the ways that Bush has mentored and encouraged her to be the very best that she can be.   Thornhill Education Center was chosen by CWU to be the recipient of its four-year accumulated Special Project.  A check for $1,000, designated to be used in the area of Family Learning through Interactive Participation (FLIP), was accepted by Lane Lewis. Lane Lewis, center, director of FLIP at Thornhill Education Center, spoke about how the center’s FLIP program has positively impacted the lives  of young women in the community. Pictured with her are Mary Bradley, left, co-chair of CWU Ecumenical Action committee and Lillian Nunnelly, Ecumenical Action committee member and board member of Thornhill Education Center. Members and friends of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church celebrated the church’s 188th year Sunday with a homecoming and potluck dinner on the grounds.  The church was established in 1824.  Bro. Bill Chilton of Indianapolis, whose grandfather was a former pastor of the church, was the guest speaker.  Special music was presented by South of Heaven Ministries. Pictured from left are Bro. Bill and Dee Chilton; and Bro. Bob and Wanda Karsner. Members of Harvieland United Methodist Church, Flat Creek Road, recently held a tailgate/motorcycle worship service.  People attending rode motorcycles, four-wheelers and even came in a horse-drawn covered wagon belonging to Judy and Tom Coke. Pictured with the wagon are Judy Coke, Linda Roberts and granddaughter Emily Roberts. Members of Harvieland United Methodist Church, Flat Creek Road, recently held a tailgate/motorcycle worship service.  Leaning against the car are Tom Coke and Dale Wethington, pastor of the church. Ralph and Tammy Eversole cook at West Frankfort Church of God’s recent  picnic/cookout at Juniper Hill Park. The event was for all the church youth teen members and their families.  Approximately 45 people attended.  Carrie Hall and Lora Smith, the Teen Church Directors and the Eversoles who are Youth Church Directors coordinated the event.
