movie night

‘Progressive Christianity’ topic of Monday program

Dr. Chuck Queen, senior pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church and author of four books on progressive Christian themes, will be presenting a lecture at the Paul Sawyier Public Library Community Room 6 p.m. Monday on the topic: “Some Core Convictions of Progressive Christianity.”

The following questions will be addressed in the presentation:

How do we (progressive Christians) engage the Bible both critically and spiritually, taking the Scriptures seriously, but not literally?

Why do we begin with original blessing, rather than original sin, convinced that all people are children of God?

How do we understand Christian salvation?

How do we understand the redemptive significance of Jesus’ death and how is that different from traditional Christian interpretations?

Why do we believe solidarity with the poor and social justice is just as important as prayer and personal piety?

How do we understand God’s involvement in the world and how is that different from traditional views?

The lecture will be followed by a time for questions and discussion. The program is free and open to the public. For more information call Queen at 223-7601.

The information for submitting is below here and, as always, be sure to include all pertinent who, what, when and where information. Remember, too, this listing is for special services and programs not your regular worship services unless there’s something special going on.

We will start running these next Tuesday, March 12.
