Quilt Guild meeting Tuesday

The Central Kentucky Homemakers Quilt Guild will hold its Christmas party 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Franklin County Extension Office, 101 Lakeview Court. There will also be a handbell program led by Linda Marean and including Guild members.

The Guild follows the weather policy of the Franklin County Public Schools: no school/no meeting.

 

‘Falstaff’ coming to Grand

The first new Metropolitan Opera’s production of Guiseppe Verdi’s beloved comic opera “Falstaff” is the next high-definition broadcast at the Grand Theatre. The showing is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

“Falstaff” is sung in Italian with English subtitles. The running time is about 3 hours, 20 minutes. Tickets are $23 for adults, $18 for students, and may be purchased at the door, at the ticket office at 312 W. Main St. between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. weekdays or by calling 502-352-7469. The Grand is located at 308 St. Clair St.

Legendary Met conductor James Levine takes the baton for this new production of Verdi’s masterpiece depicting the blustery Shakespearean character Sir John Falstaff. Producer Robert Carsen has set the current rendition in post-WW II England.

Italian baritone Ambrogio Maestri in the title role leads a strong cast. Also appearing are Lisette Oropesa as Nannetta, Angela Meade as Alice and Paolo Fanale as Fenton.
