Planting by the signs: Moon in dark phase, flowering signs in force Monday through Thursday

Here’s this week’s information about the phases of the moon and signs of the zodiac.

The moon is in the dark phase now and will remain there until the new moon 6:14 a.m. New Year’s Day. Proceed with those activities that benefit from the dark moon being in force.

A look at the signs reveals the killing sign Leo (the heart) is in force today. Don’t be fooling around today with any plants you’re wanting to see thrive.

Then beginning Monday and continuing through Thursday we find the two flowering signs in force. Monday and Tuesday are ruled by Virgo (the bowels), followed by Wednesday and Thursday under Libra (the reins). These are bloom days so your Christmas poinsettias should be putting on a show!

The very fertile sign Scorpio (the secrets) comes into force Friday and remains Saturday. If you’re doing any planting in your greenhouse, these are your days this week.

Let’s wrap up 2013 while we’re here.

The month ends and the new month and year begin with our series of so-so signs. Sagittarius (the thighs) rules Dec. 29-31, meaning Sagittarius was in force a total of five days this month.

Capricorn (the legs) rules Jan. 1-2, the series concluding with Aquarius (the legs) in force Jan. 3-4.

Winter is here

Well, winter officially began Saturday and can’t you tell the days are already getting longer! If the forecast held, we should have had a warm and wet — but hopefully not flooding — weekend.

Enjoy the Christmas holiday and perhaps it will be a white one!
