Presented by the Franklin Co. High School drama and choir depts.

Oh, the places you’ll go when you see Franklin County High School’s production of “Seussical, the Musical.”

The show, produced by the drama and choir departments, combines characters and storylines from several beloved Dr. Seuss classics. “Seussical” opens Thursday and continues through next Sunday. Performances Thursday through Saturday are at 7 p.m. with a 2 p.m. matinee next Sunday. All shows are in the auditorium at FCHS and tickets are $8 for students and $10 for adults at the door.

The Cat in the Hat (Madeleine Hendrix) is the host, emcee and all-around mischief-maker for this family-friendly adventure. The plot revolves around Horton the Elephant (Taylor Strickland), who finds himself faced with two challenges — not only must he protect the Who community, including his tiny friend JoJo (Tre Taylor) from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must also guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by Mayzie (Elly Morris).

Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz (Sydney Hendrix) never loses faith in him, and is the only one who recognizes “his kind and his powerful heart.”

“My favorite thing about this musical is its full exploration of the child’s imagination,” said Hendrix. “Seussical encourages kids to think for themselves and create for the sake of creativity. The world of JoJo’s imagination is a fun place and a quirky place (and sometimes even a scary place) and that is all fantastic and amazing.”

Also featured in the world of Whoville are the mayor and his wife (Perry Kring and Kadie Adams), butter-battling General Schmitz (Justin Woolums) and the Grinch (Clay Shackelford). Rounding out the town of Who are Megan Little, Charlie Starzman, Devin Harrod, Camden Ritchie, Taryn Ritchie, Margaret Whitworth, Abby Wilhoite, Kelsey Rice, Laken Semones, Katelyn Taylor, Rachel Hampton, Kyle Wilcox, Marjorie Mason and Michaela Grimes.

Citizens of the jungle include the Sour Kangaroo (Cheyenne Boone), the mischievous Wickersham Brothers (Cameron Paige, Bryce Prothero, Max Day and Daniel Foster), the Bird Girls (Hallee Mason, Samantha Wilcox, Catherine Clements and Emmalee Young), Yertle the Turtle (Joe Cheek) and Vlad Valdikoff (C.J. Calhoun).

In the Jungle Chorus are Hannah Covington, Alex Hulette, Yasmine Bradshaw, Mattie Baker, Becca Penn and Haley Franklin.

Will the planet of Who survive? Will Horton pay attention to Gertrude? Will Mayzie ever return for her egg? Dr. Seuss’s beloved classic characters find themselves intertwined in an incredible crazy-quilt adventure, in which the power of imagination and the most miraculous “think” ever save the day.
