The Kentucky State University Division of Fine Arts and the Opera Musical Theatre Workshop will present the spring “Opera Gala Performance” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday in the Little Theatre in Bradford Hall.
The event includes selections from George Bizet’s “Carmen,” Donizetti’s “Elixir of Love” and Verdi’s “La Traviata.”
General admission tickets are $5 and will be available at the door. For information call Vincent Davis at 502-597-6611.
The “Opera Gala Performance” is presented in partnership with the Frankfort Arts Foundation as part of its 2014 arts and cultural series.
“We are presenting selections from some of opera’s most celebrated works, including the famous love duet from ‘Carmen,’ some beautiful and hilarious ensemble pieces from ‘The Elixir of Love,’ and the invigorating and heart-tugging Act II duet from ‘La Traviata,’” said Davis, an assistant professor of voice at KSU who is the director of the production and the KSU Opera Musical Theatre Workshop.
“For us to have the opportunity to perform these operas and engage our community makes us extremely honored and proud. We hope the Frankfort area community will come out and join us for some of opera’s most beautiful excerpts sung extremely well,” said Davis.
Students from Davis’ Opera Musical Theatre Workshop will perform the selections. The cast includes tenor Christian Agnew of Louisville, soprano Marissa Chamblee from Shelbyville, soprano Sabrena Rose of Indianapolis, baritone AnTjuan Darrisaw of Detroit and soprano Vanessa Henderson and baritone Sankara Harouna, both from Chicago.
Jae Won Kim, KSU Division of Fine Arts, is accompanying on piano.
