Planting by the Signs: Moon in dark phase; killing signs end of the week

By Philip Case, Published:

If you are planting your garden by the phases of the moon and signs of the zodiac, here’s this week’s information.

The moon is in the dark phase now, the full moon having come into force at 7:25 a.m. Saturday. It will remain there until the new moon at 6:42 p.m. July 26. Through this period plant only those veggies that produce beneath the ground. Check the “date to maturity” on plants and seeds to see what can still be planted and have  a hope of making it to harvest.

According to the signs, our monthly series of so-so signs continues today and Monday with Aquarius (the legs) in force.

The very fertile sign Pisces (the feet) comes to rule Tuesday and Wednesday with the moon in the dark phase. On either of these days you can plant anything that produces beneath the ground.

Just get it done before Thursday and Friday when the sign moves to Aries (the head), one of the killing signs. Reserve these days for any gardening activity but planting.

Outstanding planting then returns Saturday, next Sunday and Monday when the sign moves to Taurus (the neck) one of the four most fertile signs for below-ground producers now with the moon firmly in the dark phase.

Time for changes

With the arrival of the dark moon comes a time for making changes through next Wednesday — at least we have a few days this month. During this time the signs move through Aquarius and Pisces — all parts of the body that don’t “function” with the moon in the dark phase.

These days will be great for making changes like starting a diet, stopping smoking, weaning children or animals, starting an exercise program — anything that involves a change.

Just be underway before Thursday when the sign moves to Aries.

The what can still be planted list will be updated in next week’s column.
