The Franklin County Fair and Horse Show begins tonight with gates opening at 5. The one-price admission remains $10 per person, which includes all rides, shows and events. Refreshments and souvenirs are extra.
“The fair is a community event and all about community,” said State Journal editor Philip Case. “As we have across the years we want your pictures that capture the fair. If they meet our criteria explained below then they will be published in the newspaper.
“Sure, you can post pictures online at a variety of locations — including ours — but there’s still nothing still quite like cutting out a picture from the newspaper and taping it to the refrigerator door,” said Case. “Let’s enjoy and share fair week.”
While we wish we could staff every event we simply don’t have the personnel to do that and are asking for your help to submit photos.
We will have staff stories and pictures about selected events, attempting to touch on many of the aspects of the fair throughout the week including livestock shows, motorsports events, the exhibit hall, horse shows — and, of course lots of faces.
Since we only assign a photographer to the Miss Franklin County Fair Pageant, which is at 9 tonight in the Hancock Pavilion, we will accept good quality submitted photos from other pageants and events at the fair and will publish them as space permits.
We’re calling upon parents, guardians, friends and/or pageant personnel to provide us with pictures from all other pageants — and/or other events of interest to you.
Submitted pictures MUST be of good quality, close enough to see faces clearly, and all those pictured must be properly identified.
“Live” pictures may be submitted in person here at the newspaper, 1216 Wilkinson Blvd. Please include a contact name and address in case questions arise.
Digital submissions may be sent to new Spectrum editor Susan Moore, firstname.lastname@example.org or to Case, email@example.com, preferably in JPEG format. We need digital images to be at least two inches wide by three inches tall at 180 dots per inch (DPI), but in general, the larger the better. Pictures will be published at our discretion and we reserve the right to reject those that we feel will not reproduce well.
Chairpersons of various events, or their designees, are responsible for submitting results. These include results from the Exhibit Hall, horse shows, the flower show, etc.
If you have questions or need clarification, call Moore or Case at 502-226-4556 or e-mail them.
