The summer reading program is coming to a close but there is still time to submit reading logs before the drawing for the grand prizes. Log on to your account and add submissions or drop off paper reading logs by Monday. Grand prizes include an iPad Mini and Toys R Us gift cards.
Kid’s comedy magic show
Kick off the school year with some fun. Magic Adams, a magician and one-man circus, will be performing a family-friendly show at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Community Room. There will be ventriloquism, storytelling, whip cracking and more. This program is free and open to the public.
The library will host the 7th annual Gathering of Authors 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 23 in the Community Room. This is an excellent opportunity to chat with local authors in a casual atmosphere and purchase their newest releases. This is free to the public and open to all ages.
Film discussion group
“Pontypool,” a 2008 horror film directed by Bruce McDonald, will be discussed at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Community Room. If interested in joining this group, contact Ernie at the library.
Book discussion groups
The library offers a variety of book discussion groups for those interested in gathering and discussing their love of books. Engage in stimulating conversation about books, exchange perspectives about characters and plot, and get to know your neighbors. Beginning PowerPoint is designed to assist users in learning to create presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint. Topics covered include setting up a basic presentation and adding sound. Attendees will find it helpful to have computer experience. The class meets 2 p.m. Tuesday.
World Vital Records is for those interested in genealogy. Learn to use this database for access to a wide variety of genealogical records from around the world. This class will be offered on 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Word Processing is an introduction to Microsoft Word. Learn to create a document and the basics of word processing. Techniques learned in this class can easily be applied to other word processing programs. This class will meet at 10 a.m. Aug. 14.
Computer Basics is designed for those with no computer experience. Learn to identify the basic parts of a computer and become comfortable using the mouse and keyboard. There will be time for questions and answers regarding computers and software. This class will meet at 2 p.m. Aug. 21.
One-On-One Training is available for those who need assistance learning to use iPads, tablets and smartphones.
