RICHMOND - Frankfort High senior Alex Oder is expected to win discus events.
No surprise there. She's the three-time reigning Class A state discus champion.
So naturally, it should come as no surprise that Oder not only destroyed the discus field in the Class A Region 4 Track and Field meet, but she picked up a little extra hardware as well.
Oder won both the discus and shot put events in the regional meet, here, Wednesday evening at Eastern Kentucky University. Her efforts are a good reason, in fact, why FHS is currently in third place behind Danville and Fairview heading into Saturday's track finals.
All of the field events were completed Wednesday to go along with the 4 by 800 relays. The Frankfort girls won that event, as well.
"This is just one of those days you try to get through and get everything set up for Saturday," Frankfort coach Frank Miklavcic said. "Now it's time to see what happens. I like where we are."
Danville is currently first in the girls with 67 points, followed by Fairview with 40 and FHS with 30.
The Frankfort boys are in tenth place heading into Saturday.
Oder set the tone early in the discus Wednesday. Her first throw of 110-3 proved to be her best of the day. Tristen Hood of Fairview finished in second way back at 80-11.
