After a disappointing loss Friday, Frankfort High girls basketball coach Joey Thacker was wary of Monday's matchup with Franklin County.
But a strong inside game in the second half quieted those concerns as FHS defeated the Lady Flyers 57-39 at F.D. Wilkinson Gym.
"I told them at halftime we weren't going to win many ballgames with Jackie (Gordon) taking two shots in the first half," Thacker said. "We started playing side to side. Jackie was working her tail off to get the ball, but we weren't looking for her."
Gordon scored 20 of her game-high 27 points in the second half as the Lady Panthers pulled away from an 18-all tie at halftime.
"There's that Franklin County mystique," Thacker said. "I told them don't be afraid to go out on a lead instead of playing around. I was really pleased with our mental toughness in the second half. I challenged them at halftime, don't be afraid to be good."
