The Franklin County girls basketball team overcame a rocky start Thursday night against Paris, but the effort wasn't enough.
The Lady Hounds knocked off FCHS 57-53 to improve to 10-3 on the season. FCHS falls to 3-10.
Franklin County had an awful first quarter in which the Lady Flyers went over four minutes without attempting a shot. Paris, in the meantime, jumped out to a 16-4 lead by the end of the period.
"That was ugly," FCHS coach Lenore Sparks said of the first quarter. "We seem to have spurts like that but it's not normally at the beginning of the game. We usually start well."
Still, FCHS was in this game at the end.
With the help of a 25-6 run, FCHS led 31-26 in the third period.
But foul trouble hurt Franklin County, and Paris managed to overcome the Lady Flyers' size advantage.
