Lady Panthers in regional final

LEXINGTON - The Frankfort High girls basketball team used a stellar defensive performance to advance to the finals of the Class A Region 11 championship game.

The Panthers knocked off Berea 47-31 Thursday night at Sayre High School in the semifinals.

Next up for Frankfort is Lexington Christian, which defeated Model 79-20 in Thursday's other semifinal.

FHS (12-4) and LCA (9-3) will play for the title at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Sayre with the winner advancing to the Touchstone Energy All A Classic state tournament Feb. 5-10 at Eastern Kentucky University.

"We wanted this game so bad," said junior Brittany Wilson, who played a big part in the win over Berea. "This tournament is really important to us."

Important to Frankfort Thursday was shutting down a good Berea team. The Lady Pirates (11-5) lit up Sayre Wednesday night 60-23 in the opening round.
