FHS falls in region final

LEXINGTON - The Frankfort High girls basketball team has come a long way under second-year coach Joey Thacker, but the Lady Panthers haven't come far enough to pass a veteran team like Lexington Christian.

The Lady Eagles are young but have the experience that comes with two straight trips to the All "A" state tournament.

Make that three.

Lexington Christian defeated Frankfort High 63-49 in the finals of the All "A" 11th Region tournament Saturday night at Sayre and will advance to the state tournament in Richmond in two weeks.

"When you talk about this tournament, you have to start with Lexington Christian. They've won three years in a row now," Frankfort coach Joey Thacker said. "We've got a gutsy bunch of girls and it seems like we're three inches away from being in the top tier of the region with them. The only way we'll get there is to keep practicing hard and get some game experience."

Lexington Christian coach Ralph Sallee agreed his team's experience was a key to the win.

"We've been here before and even though we are a young team, we aren't as young as we look," Sallee said of his team, which starts one senior, two sophomores, a freshman and an eighth-grader.
