High five! Panthers win fifth straight All 'A' 11th Region title

BEREA - Champions know how to win when challenged.

Coach Scott Chalk's Frankfort High Panthers learned how to win a long time ago. Although the Frankfort roster changes year to year, of course, there's a tradition of winning that carries over.

So it was no surprise that Frankfort responded as Chalk wished when challenged by the Sayre Spartans here Saturday night in the All "A" Region championship game at Berea High.

The Panthers broke away from a 40-40 tie late in the third quarter to beat the Spartans 74-62.

It's Frankfort's fifth straight regional crown.

The Panthers move on to the All "A" State Tournament later this week. They will play the Region 7 champ, probably Louisville Christian, at 9 a.m. Thursday at McBrayer Arena in Richmond.

Louisville Christian upset the Panthers 55-52 in the first round a year ago.

Frankfort had to battle harder than Chalk may have thought was necessary to derail Sayre Saturday, though that isn't all bad.

"I'm satisfied with this, especially how we had to do it with two close games," Chalk said. "This region is getting tougher every year."
