FCHS loses as rally falls short

By SUSAN RIDDELL State Journal Sports Writer Published:

A big rally by the Franklin County boys basketball team fell just a little short as the Flyers lost to Oldham County 46-39 Tuesday night at FCHS.

"We had a good effort in the second half," Franklin County coach Lewis Morris said of his team, now 12-9.

The Flyers trailed by 15 points before cutting the deficit to two. Oldham County led 40-25 with 2:23 left in the third quarter, but the Colonels couldn't buy a basket and went scoreless for over seven minutes.

"That's how we've been playing lately," Oldham coach Gary Forrest said. "We're a Jekyll and Hyde team and this is always a tough place for us to play."

Mory Burse started the comeback for Franklin County with a three-pointer, and Bruce Bohman scored just before the end of the third period as FCHS trailed by 10.

Over the next four-plus minutes, the Colonels had several good looks at the basket but were never able to convert. The Flyers, meanwhile, got six points from senior guard Daniel Moore and a layup from Bohman, making it 40-38 with just over two minutes to go.
