The Kentucky State men's basketball team was knocked out of conference play in the second round of the SIAC tournament Thursday night, falling 89-80 to Lane College.
The loss ends the Thorobreds' season with a 13-16 record. Lane moves on to the semifinals with a 13-14 record. The tournament is being played Fair Park Arena in Birmingham, Ala.
Kentucky State, which took a whopping 88 shots from the field, couldn't convert offensively, hitting for just 29.5 percent. The Thorobreds were just 8-of-33 on three-point tries.
All SIAC performer and Newcomer of the Year Ricky Green was 2 of 22 from the field, finishing with 11 points. Guard Jason McGowan led KSU with 28 points and eight rebounds, followed by James Williams with 15 points and Devonne Martinez with 14 points.
Kentucky State trailed 35-24 at the half.
While KSU struggled shooting the basketball, Lane did not. The Dragons connected on 58 percent of their shots, making 29-of-50 tries. They outrebounded Kentucky State 50-42 though the Thorobreds pulled down 23 offensive boards to just eight for Lane.
