Western Hills girls basketball coach Bryan Edwards is now perfect in three senior night games, thanks to some clutch shooting late by his Lady Wolverines.
WHHS squeaked out a 48-47 overtime win Thursday night in its regular season finale, winning over Bardstown High School.
The Lady Wolverines close out the regular season with a 6-18 record while the Lady Tigers fall to 4-18.
Western Hills opens up play in the 41st District tournament Tuesday night, facing Woodford County in Versailles.
Thursday's win provided some much needed momentum for Western Hills heading into post-season play.
The senior night win came in large part to the underclassmen, however. While senior Meredith Plant turned in another double-double performance with 18 points and 17 rebounds, it was clear she was the focus of Bardstown's defense late in the game.
Clinging to a 39-37 lead with under 10 seconds to go, the Lady Tigers keyed on Plant. Edwards knew this was going to be the case, so his out of bounds play was designed to get freshman Alicia McCarty the ball instead.
McCarty curled around a screen and got the ball from Mollie Wade. McCarty took the ball straight to the basket and hit a driving shot with six seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game.
