Frankfort High's Lady Panthers face a familiar opponent in an unfamiliar environment in the 11th Region basketball tournament.
FHS, making its first regional tournament appearance since 1989, plays Berea Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the opening round of the tournament at Berea College.
The two teams played twice in the regular season with Frankfort winning by 16 points both times.
"It doesn't matter how many times you play someone," FHS senior Jackie Gordon said, "you still have to play as hard as you can. On any given night anything can happen.
"It's like Coach (Joey) Thacker says," she added, "in order to get something you've never gotten, you have to do something you've never done. This team has worked harder than any team, and Coach has worked hard with us, and that hard work is paying off."
Berea (19-10) is coming into the tournament as 44th District champion after upsetting Madison Central 46-43 in the tournament opener and beating Model 66-47 in the championship game. FHS is the runner-up in District 41.
During the season Frankfort beat the Lady Pirates 47-31 in the All "A" Classic 11th Region tournament, then again 52-36 last month at F.D. Wilkinson Gym.
