BEREA - The Frankfort High Lady Panthers continue to ride down the postseason glory road in the Girls 11th Region tournament as FHS advanced to the semifinals with a 42-33 win over Berea Saturday at Berea College.
It was the third win of the season for Frankfort over the Lady Pirates, who were denied their 20th win this year, thanks to a strong defensive effort by FHS.
Frankfort, meanwhile, picks up win No. 21 compared to just eight losses. The Lady Panthers will meet No. 3 Lexington Catholic Monday night at 8:15 p.m. The Lady Knights were a 45-30 winner over Lafayette in Saturday's final game.
Woodford County, playing without 11th Region Player of the Year Destiny Mattingly, who sprained an ankle prior to the game, cruised to a 86-31 victory over Model in the first game of the tournament. The Lady Jackets will meet Dunbar Monday night at 6:30 p.m. in the other semifinal. Dunbar knocked off Lexington Christian 50-41.
"We are tickled to death to be playing on Monday night," Frankfort coach Joey Thacker said. "We're a school that's got just 270 kids and we're not supposed to be here. But we are here, we're happy about it, and we're going to enjoy the ride."
