FCHS falls 3-1 on McKee's blast

By SUSAN RIDDELL State Journal Sports Writer Published:

Santana McKee's two-run home run blast put an exclamation point on a great softball game Thursday at Sally Gaines Field as No. 24 Anderson County rallied for a 3-1 win over No. 16 Franklin County.

The game went eight innings before McKee's homer broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the final inning.

"Santana's a powerful hitter and a phenomenal player," said Anderson County coach Brian Glass of his clean-up hitter. "All we told her to do was just meet the ball."

The Lady Cats had trouble doing that early against Franklin County ace Amy Eichhorn, who struck out seven of the first eight batters she faced.

The Lady Flyers led 1-0 after scoring in the first inning and that lead held up for the better part of the game.

Anderson County was finally able to put a bat on the ball through the middle innings, however, but could never get a run across until the sixth inning.
