Girls shine for FHS

NEW CASTLE - The Frankfort High Lady Panthers track and field team showed the star power and depth here at the Henry County Invitational Saturday that bodes well for the state meet on May 30-31.

The FHS girls picked up wins Saturday from senior Jackie Gordon in the 400 (58.37) and 800 (2:34.01), senior Alex Oder in the discus (98-0), junior Ryan Quire in the 3,200 (12:25.87) and junior Leesa Unger in the 1,600 (5:42.0).

All five of those victories were accomplished in dominating fashion.

In addition, Unger was second in the 3,200 (12:35.07), the Lady Panther quartet of Unger, Rebecca Bessinger, Monica Higgins and Gordon was second in the 4 by 800 relay (10:49.49), and Oder was third in the shot put (30-0) to highlight the showing for the FHS girls.

The Lady Panthers finished second in their division behind Triple-A power John Hardin. John Hardin had 103 points and FHS 89.

It would have been even closer had Gordon been 100 percent. FHS coach Frank Miklavcic says Gordon was suffering from nagging soreness in an arch.
