FHS girls place second

The Frankfort High girls track and field team was runner-up in the Harrodsburg Invitational track meet Tuesday while the boys team came in fourth place.

Mercer County defeated the FHS girls 167-129 while the Harrodsburg boys edged Boyle County 129-128.

Several locals did well in the meet. Frankfort senior Jackie Gordon won four events including the girls 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes. Leesa Unger won the 1,600 meter run, Ryan Quire the 800 and Monica Higgins the long jump.

The 4x800 relay unit of Unger, Quire, Melanie Smith and Higgins won, as did the 4x400 relay unit of Unger, Quire, Higgins and Gordon.

Senior Alex Oder won the discus throw by nearly 30 feet.

On the boys side, senior Keena Turner won two events, and the relay team of Turner, Emmanuel Fields, Chris Current and Ephraim Fields won the 4x200.
