The Western Hills softball team won the battle of youth Thursday against Frankfort High with a 15-0 win at Lakeview Park.
The game was called after three innings on the mercy rule.
Both teams came into the game winless, but the Lady Wolverines pounded out nine hits in the three innings and rode a strong pitching performance from Courtney Wiard.
"We knew we'd come along at some point," WHHS coach Enoch Welch said of his team, now 1-6. "We just had to be patient and keep it fun.
"Today, we really came out focused," Welch added. "We're a couple of teams that both have some young talent and we're getting to where we want to be."
Western Hills took advantage of three Frankfort errors in the first inning in building an early 8-0 lead. Seven of the runs were unearned.
