FCHS falls in semis of softball tourney

The Franklin County girls softball team got the hitting coach Tracy Spickard knew her team was capable of all day Saturday in the Capital City Showcase.

That hitting and the always solid pitching efforts of Amy Eichhorn and Michelle Farler helped FCHS reach the semifinals of the 24-team tournament.

But the Lady Flyers fell in the semis to an equally good Lone Oak team 7-4 late Saturday night.

Lone Oak, now 15-4, advanced to the finals, facing either Dunbar or Scott County, who were battling it out in the other semifinal.

That game didn't end until after The State Journal went to press Saturday night. The championship was set to start Saturday around 11:15 p.m.

Franklin County came out of Capital City Showcase pool play 3-0 with wins against Bardstown, Marion County and Walton Verona.

Western Hills went 1-2 in pool play, beating Rowan County and losing to Assumption and North Hardin. Frankfort was 0-3 with losses to Lone Oak, Allen County-Scottsville and Fern Creek in pool play.
