HARRODSBURG - Experience paid off for the locals here Saturday at the power-packed Heart of the Bluegrass Classic track and field competition.

A slew of area seniors led the way.

Frankfort High senior Jackie Gordon won the 400 (57.8) and 800 (2:28.56) and helped the Lady Panthers win the 4 by 800 relay in a sizzling 10:12.52.

FHS senior Alex Oder won the discus (107-0).

Western Hills senior Jonathan Thomas was third in a personal record time of 2:00.95 at 800 meters and then placed fifth in the 3,200 (10:11.5) - the latter an event Thomas hadn't run since the eighth grade.

Senior Nick Burchfield finished sixth in the 200 meters (23.50) to lead the Franklin County boys.

Some of the younger runners in the area also had their moments, led by the Franklin County Lady Flyers in the 4 by 400 relay. Eighth graders Caitlin Barker and Yvonne Stone, freshman Layne Bush and sophomore Ashley Hogan combined to run third in that event in 4:36.26.

Gordon was joined in Frankfort's winning 4 by 800 unit by Leesa Unger, Monica Higgins and Ryan Quire.
