Kentucky State's softball team will take a 24-9 record into the NCAA Division II South Region tournament starting Thursday in Miami Shores, Fla.
Barry University, the No. 1 seed in the tournament with a 49-8 record, is the host school.
There are six teams in the round-robin tournament, which kicks off with an 11 a.m. Thursday between No. 4 seed Valdosta State (44-17) and No. 5 Arkansas-Monticello (42-10).
KSU, seeded sixth, takes on No. 3 Alabama-Huntsville (43-16) at 1:30 p.m. The winner of the 11 a.m. game faces Berry at 4, followed by the winner of the 1:30 game versus second-seeded University of West Florida (47-9) at 6:30.
The tournament runs through Sunday.
KSU reached the regional tournament by winning the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament in late April. It was the fourth time in the past five years that the Thorobrettes have won the SIAC tournament.
This year K-State went 18-0 in conference play while hitting .416, tops in NCAA Division II.
