Regional tennis starts Monday

Franklin County's Tyler Merchant and the girls doubles team of Holly Kell and Jennifer Bevington are the only local players seeded in the Region 8 tennis tournament which will get underway Monday at the University of Kentucky.

Merchant is seeded seventh in singles play on the boys side. He will face Frankfort's Lee Myers-White in the opening round.

In other singles matches Monday, FCHS' Justin Jones will square off against Steven Jones of Lafayette. Frankfort's No. 1 singles player, Thomas Sachtler, will go up against Bryan Station's Adam Elias.

Western Hills' Adam Duvall has the tough task of facing second-seeded, Doug Arnold of Sayre, while teammate Frank Thomas will face West Jessamine's Michael Song.

On the doubles side, Franklin County's Bruce Bohman and Brian Moore will meet fourth-seeded Herren-Frank of Lafayette while Western Hills' Kevin Cantrell and Aaron Lawrence will play the seventh-seeded team from Henry Clay, Barr-Lawrence.

FCHS' Bryan Weeks and Joshua Scott will go up against East Jessamine's Hale-Webster and the WHHS tandem of Eric Skaggs and Evan Hudson will square off against Lexington Catholic's Ecton-Mason.

Frankfort High's Shawn Goins and Evan Hudson will battle Sayre's Wells-Gess, and Daniel Brown and Austin Blackburn will face Henry Clay's Hill-Nickels.

Kell and Bevington went undefeated for Franklin County on the regular season in girls doubles, earning the duo a sixth seed in the tournament.
