LEXINGTON - Franklin County senior Nick Burchfield finished fifth in the 100 meters and sixth in the 200 Saturday in the Class AA division at the KHSAA State Track Meet.

Burchfield ran the 100 in 11.24 and the 200 in 22.99.

He ran 10.96 and 23.24, respectively, in winning those two races at the regional a week ago.

"I had a good run today," Burchfield said of his 100. "They just beat me."

Senior John Logan of Lexington Catholic won the 100 in 10.90, and junior Carl Sains of Paducah Tilghman won the 200 in 22.26.

Burchfield did not lose too often this spring in reaching two state finals for the first time in a strong high school career.

"This year has been my best," he said. "My coaches have helped me a lot. They knew what to give me to make me faster. I didn't go out ilke I wanted to today, but I'll take it."
