Chris Current played his cards right, landing a spot on the University of Louisville men's basketball team.
The Frankfort High senior announced this week he plans to walk on the basketball team at Louisville next season.
"I'm really excited about this," Current said of his decision. "It's a dream come true and it's an incredible load off my shoulders to know where I'm going."
The 6-foot-4 guard was courted by several mid-major Division I and NAIA schools the past two years but will bypass those opportunities to play for coach Rick Pitino.
U of L and Murray State University were highest on Current's list most recently, but he cites being closer to home, the opportunity of medical school down the road and playing for Pitino as the major factors which have led him to this point.
"I couldn't pass this up," Current said. "It's an opportunity to play on a nationally ranked team and playing for Coach Pitino. That was always something I dreamed about as a kid, even though he's at Louisville now and not at Kentucky.
"It's a top-notch program," Current added. "The medical school there is excellent and it'll make it an easier transition for me. It's closer to home, too."
The Cards were ranked as high as No. 2 in the polls this past season but were upset in the second round of the NCAA tournament by Butler.
