Stephanie Vincent knows what it's like to play softball for Greg Dempsey, and that helped when picking a college.
Vincent, who graduated from Franklin County earlier this month, signed a letter of intent Thursday to play softball at Midway College where Dempsey is head coach.
"I've played for Greg before," Vincent said, "and I've known him for awhile. I thought it would be fun to play for him."
Dempsey coached Vincent on all-star teams in the Frankfort Parks and Recreation Department, and he's the coach of the Dixie Chics, a summer softball team that Vincent has been a member of the past two years.
Vincent spent five years on the FCHS softball team. She played rightfield as a freshman and started at shortstop the past three years. She was named honorable mention all-state this season and will play in the East-West All-Star games this weekend.
"She's been a driving force for us," FCHS coach Tracy Spickard said. "Her freshman year we needed someone to step into an outfield position and she did a good job for us.
"That's the year we lost in the regional final to Madison Central, and she had a strong game there," Spickard said, "and it carried over from there. She's been a consistent, steady driving force for us offensively and defensively."
This past season, when the Lady Flyers won the 11th Region tournament and finished seventh at the state tournament, Vincent hit .389, second on the team, and led FCHS with 32 runs batted in while anchoring the team's defense at shortstop.
