Unlike most Kentuckians, Jackie Gordon never felt the need to load up on University of Kentucky paraphernalia.
But since she recently signed with the Wildcats to run track, those UK goods were at the top of her high school graduation wish-list a few weeks back.
"The only things I had were a button and a cup from a game," Gordon said. "But I got some good stuff for graduation and I plan to get some more."
Gordon did in fact graduate recently from Frankfort High and soon she'll be off to Lexington to run track for the Kentucky Wildcats.
"I'm very happy with my choice," Gordon said of UK. "I didn't want to stay close to home at first, but now I see it's not such a bad thing. Being closer to my family will have tons of benefits."
Gordon said Kentucky was never on her list of schools early on. But a meeting with former Olympian and current UK sprint coach Passion Richardson changed that.
"Passion called me and I went for visit," Gordon said. "That moved UK to the top of my list.
"Everything about it was great," Gordon added. "The coaches, the team, and the student-athlete support will be a big plus. I like all the resources and the facilities are top-notch."
Once she visited Kentucky, Gordon's choice was a no-brainer. She also considered Western Kentucky University but the idea of competing in the best track and field conference in the country was too much to pass up on.
