SHELBYVILLE - Frankfort Blue All-Stars head coach Buddy Ritchie isn't old enough to compare his team to some of the great groups of 12-year-olds who have come down the pike in tradition-rich Franklin County.
But it appears that Ritchie's 2003 bunch could stake a claim with considerable credibility to being one of the all-time great teams in Frankfort baseball.
The numbers and the obvious skills support that idea.
Frankfort beat host Shelby County 12-2 here Monday night in the finals of the district tournament. Blue scored eight runs in the top of the first inning, and after that this was no more than an exhibition.
The game was mercifully called after four innings.
Frankfort beat this same Shelby County team, again 12-2, in the winners bracket final on Saturday night.
That followed Blue's 7-0 win over Carroll County on Saturday morning and a 26-0 shellacking of Spencer County last Thursday night in the first round.
The Frankfort stars can score like a Hal Mumme-football team.
"The kids are really hitting the ball right now," said Ritchie, whose team moves on to East State Tournament play Thursday through next Monday in Mt. Sterling. Frankfort opens with the host team Thursday night at 6.
