Lee Rarden and Laura Pyles were winners in the Chenault and Hoge Junior City golf tournament Friday at Juniper Hill.
Rarden, who will be a junior at Franklin County, needed a playoff to win the boys title while Pyles, a recent Western Hills graduate, was a five-stroke winner over runner-up Holly Kell in the girls division.
Sean Rodgers, playing in the boys 13-14 age group, matched Rarden with a two-day score of 148, forcing the playoff, but Rarden made a six-foot putt for par on the first extra hole to win.
"My second shot was just short of the green but I chipped within six feet," Rarden said. "Sean hit his drive left of the green and took a double bogey, so I guess I got lucky."
Rarden came into Friday's final round in fourth place. Chase Pratt shot an opening round 71 to lead by five strokes over Rodgers and Sammy Ault. Rarden was one stroke back of those two with a 77.
"All my friends told me I was going to have to shoot low and when I came out here today I knew that's what I'd have to do," Rarden said. "I thought I'd have to shoot lower than 71 to have a chance to win."
But that score held up. Rodgers fired a 72 to tie Rarden while Ault finished in third with a 151. Pratt struggled on Friday with an 84, falling into sixth place. Rounding out the top five were fourth place finisher Cain Mitchell (78-75) and Kyle Bibb (80-74), who finished fifth.
