The Frankfort Astros, a local 16-under Babe Ruth baseball team, recently finished in fourth place out of 11 teams in the Ohio Valley Babe Ruth Regional Tournament held in Dodgeville, Wis.
The Astros advanced to the tournament by winning the East Babe Ruth state championship. There, they joined West state champion Beechmont out of Louisville.
"We were inconsistent at times," coach Wayne Kennedy said of his team, "but on any given day we knew we could play with anybody. We also knew we could get (to the regional tournament) if we played the way we were capable and we did that."
In Wisconsin, the Astros drew a first-round bye then defeated host Dodgeville 21-1. Frankfort cranked out 17 hits in that game. Jake McDonald singled four times and Matt Kennedy three. Aaron Brown and Joe Hyatt added two singles each while Mark Gardner, Will Current, Seth Armstrong, Steven Baltic, Jake Arnold and Matt Satterwhite added one hit apiece.
Hyatt and Nick Keeton pitched in the win, called after five innings on the mercy rule.
Frankfort then fell to Beechmont, the eventual regional champ, 6-0. Current led Frankfort with a double and two singles while Gardner, Hyatt, Armstrong and Kennedy hit one single apiece.
Armstrong and Keeton pitched.
