Laurie Goodlett's steady round of golf Thursday propelled her to a two-shot lead in the Capital Classic Women's Invitational at Frankfort Country Club.
Goodlett shot a three-under-par 69 Thursday and leads nine-time champion Anne Combs by two strokes. Goodlett and Combs were the only golfers to shoot under par in the first round.
Today's final round had a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
"It was just one of those days when everything felt pretty good," Goodlett said. "It was just steady golf.
"I was rushing a little bit the last two holes with the thunder," she added, "and I bogeyed the last two holes I played. But I'm still really pleased."
Thursday's round featured a brief - but heavy - rainfall and thunder, but play wasn't suspended.
Sandy Martin, who won the tournament in 1995, is one stroke behind Combs at 73, and FCC member and defending champion Beth Curlin shot a 74. Curlin has won the Capital Classic six times, and she captured her sixth straight club championship last weekend.
