Miklavcic, Ritchart's roles reverse at Frankfort High

By BRIAN RICKERD State Journal Sports Writer Published:

It's Tuesday, just the third day of cross country practice at Frankfort High, and Coach John Ritchart's new assistant coach is nowhere to be found.

But that's okay, Ritchart says, because the assistant coach in question is Frank Miklavcic.

Those two men have coached the running Panthers and Lady Panthers together the past eight years, through some of Frankfort High greatest running glory in both cross country and track.

Only this year they have changed roles. Ritchart has moved from assistant to head coach and Miklavcic has stepped into Ritchart's former post as right hand man.

"I think it's okay for him to do that now," Ritchart says with a laugh when asked about Miklavcic's absence this first week at practice.

Miklavcic retired from teaching this past spring after yet another great year for his runners, leaving the opening for Ritchart to step in.

Ritchart has taught math at FHS the past eight years, and will also teach an advanced placement physics course this fall.

The changing of the guard at Frankfort begs the obvious question: Isn't it strange for these two long-time partners to change roles?

Apparently not. Or not that much anyway.
