The Franklin County girls cross country team showed its balance with a second place finish Thursday at the A.J. Special cross country meet held at Asbury College.
The Lady Flyers placed three runners in the top 12 and finished just three points out of first place to champion Shelby County.
Boyle County's Abby Piper won the girls varsity race with a time of 21:06.10. Frankfort High's Leesa Unger was the runner-up at 22:00.79 and teammate Ryan Quire was fourth in the 5,000-meter race.
The Lady Panthers finished sixth in the team totals.
Woodford County won the boys race with 66 points. Boyle County's Thomas Morgan took individual honors. Franklin County's Justin Kuhn led the Flyers with a 14th place finish and the team was seventh overall.
Capital Day's Finnja Ramcke won the girls 3,000-meter middle school race, clocking in at 13:12.04, but CDS had just four runners and did not compete in the team standings.
