Kentucky State's football team opened its season with a 35-18 victory over Clark Atlanta Saturday in Atlanta.

CAU took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter, and that lead held up until the final 30 seconds of the first half when KSU's Roni Robinson scored on a one-yard run. Scott Lambert kicked the extra point, giving the Thorobreds a 7-6 halftime lead.

KSU scored twice in the third quarter, both times on passes by Joe McBride. McBride hit Jonathan Harris with a 13-yard scoring strike with 10:44 left in the period, and Derek Talbert put K-State ahead 21-6 after catching a 20-yard pass from McBride with 1:35 remaining.

The two teams traded touchdowns in the final period with both squads scoring twice. KSU's touchdowns came on a 20-yard pass from McBride to Gordon Miles and a 16-yard pass from Shawn Johnson to Dilone Richard.

McBride, a junior college transfer, completed 23 of 36 passes for 287 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions.
