Franklin County's Matt Way and Rachel Oliver were medalists Friday at the Frankfort Country Club Invitational, but neither golfer was happy with the way their round ended.
Way shot a one-over-par 37 to tie for first place with teammates Lee Rarden and Robert Oliver, and he won on a scorecard playoff. Rachel Oliver was shooting even par through five holes but finished with a 41, good for a four-stroke win over teammates Holly Kell and Shana Faesy.
Both FCHS squads captured the team titles over Western Hills and Frankfort High.
"I wanted to make it between me, Robert and Lee for a playoff," Way said, "but the rules sheet said there'd be a scorecard playoff."
With the shotgun start used Friday, Way began the round on No. 5 and parred his first six holes. He then bogeyed Nos. 2 and 3, his sixth and seventh holes, before finishing the round with a birdie on No. 4.
"I putted OK," Way said, "but I hit the ball really well, especially the seventh and eighth holes. I had a lot of birdie putts, but I couldn't make them."
