Frankfort High's boys soccer team defeated Owen County convincingly Saturday in the All A Regional 6-2 in Owenton. Coach Sherrill Smith stated he was very proud of the way his team has grown and bought into the philosophy of Frankfort High soccer.
Frankfort controlled possession from the very start of the match. In the 32nd minute Matthew Mitchell sent a beautiful cross in front of the goal which was finished by Ramie Hutchinson past the Owen County Keeper J.P. Grider.
Mitchell wasn't finished yet and in the 29th minute he hooked up with Thomas Sachtler with another outstanding cross that Thomas also finished into the back of the net.
But in the 26th minute of play Panther keeper Jared Deaton was called upon to turn Owen County away by making a great diving save to his right to deflect a shot wide of the post.
The play on the field turned ugly at the 14th minute when Grider was shown a red card and sent out of the game for a flagrant foul inside the penalty area. Than Cutler calmly stepped to the line and buried the PK to extend Frankfort's lead to 3-0.
Owen County did end the half on a positive note by scoring in the 11th minute when midfielder Dustin Downey scored off a direct kick 19 yards out.
